Altra 100 Conquer Ifugao – April 29 – 30, 2017 | Banaue, Ifugao, Philippines

The inaugural ultra-trail running event of ALTRA Running Philippines and the 2nd Leg of Conquer Ultra Series. ALTRA 100 takes place in the highlands of Ifugao, at the seat of the 2,000 years old Banaue Rice Terraces, designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1995, it is commonly referred by Filipinos as the “Eight Wonder of the World”.

Scheduled to take place in the middle of summer, the beginning of planting season, when the terraced fields are bursting with green and the weather is fairly predictable. The course features breathtaking views, ancient rice paddies, forest trails and steep mountains that will surely captivate and challenge outdoor sports enthusiasts.

This event also is a qualifying race for KOTM’S HARDCORE 100 (H1).

Entry Requirement:

  • Runners doing 100K and 50K are expected to train well and ready to withstand unexpected weather. Temperature may drop extremely even on a Summer especially during nighttime. They must endure the knee-torturing elevations which the Cordillera is most commonly known for.
  • ALL 100K and 50K runners should submit medical certificates on or before the Race Kit Claiming. Runners can reuse their medical certificates used NO MEDICAL CERTIFICATE, NO RUN.
    • ALTRA100:
      1. Runners must have at least one (1) marathon (42.195k OR 26.2 miles) or longer distance race (road or trail) within six (6) months before the race day. Result must be verifiable thru the internet.
      2. Must be eighteen (18) year old and above.
    • 50k:
      1. Runners must have at least one (1) half-marathon (21k OR 13.1 miles) or longer distance race (road or trail) within six (6) months before the race day. Result must be verifiable thru the internet.

MANDATORY GEARS:

1. Hydration Bottle/ Bladder – To carry at least 1 liter of water
2. Trail Food – Must be sufficient for the runner’s need per category
3. Thermal Blanket/ Wind Breaker/ rain jacket – Weather condition might be worse especially during night time.
4. Reflective Vest/ blinking lights (100k and 50k only) – To make you visible at night and during poor visibility at daytime. Must be visible from your front and rear
5. Trail Running Shoes – Sandals and road shoes are not allowed for this race for safety purposes. Especially at the rice puddies when majority are slippery.
6. First Aid Kit Must contain basic aid to treat minor cuts with antiseptic

9. Collapsible Cups/ bowl/ Spoon – This will be used for your nutrition intake at the Aid Station. No cups/ bowl/ spoon will be provided at the Aid Stations.
10. Headlamps (100K and 50K only) – Must have 1 spare headlamp

12. Drop bag (100K only) – 100K runners may pass at the given schedule before the race day. Only 1 small bag per runner. Sealed and labeled. No plastic bag will be accepted.

HOW TO GET THERE:

  • Ifugao is located at the foot of the Cordillera Mountain Ranges. It is bounded on the by Mt. Province at the north, Nueva Vizcaya at the south, Benguet at west and, Isabela at the east.
    Ohayami Bus, located at Espana, Manila, transport daily to Banawe, Ifugao. Fare is P450 on a 10 hour ride. Travel starts at 9PM and last trip at 10:15PM. It is advisable to book early to avoid unavailability of slots.

Race Deescription

  • ALTRA 100K:

1. This is a 100K loop and point to point trail race that will start at Awan-igid and ends at Banawe Hotel. Start time is 0300H or 3AM of April 29, 2017.
2. Runners will first enter the mossy forest trails going Pula Village where the first Aid Station will be located.
3. After reaching Pula Village, runners will pass the beautiful rice terraces of the village while running through the rice puddies until they reach another majestic rice plantation at Cambulo Village. Trails are mostly downhills.
4. Next destination is the famous Batad Rice Terraces which are known to be the Amphitheater of Batad because of the unbelievable construction of the rice terraces with stone walls. Aid Station 2 is located at Batad Elementary School. Take the Top viewpoint going to the school and go back using the Mid Viewpoint. Take the same trails you passed earlier going back to Cambulo Village.
5. Once you reach again Cambulo, cross the hanging bridge and take the trails going Patyay Village.
6. You will pass the rice puddies of Cambulo at the earlier part of this section. It is mandatory to use your trekking poles for your security since some part of the puddies are narrow and to avoid you from getting slip from it. After the rice puddies, a little river trekking and you will go up a steep ascent on a mossy forest. Once you reach the peak, you will pass the ridge and finally go down to Patyay Village.
7. Patyay Village is our Aid Station 3. Be amazed with the big garden like Rice Terraces and the Ifugao traditional houses while trekking parallel to their river before ascending Mt. Amuyao, one of the top ten highest mountains of the Philippines.
8. Expect a sudden temperature drop at the summit of Mt. Amuyao. A radar station and antenna will be your reference at the top before you traverse it going the steep descend going to the town of Barlig in Mountain Province. Get your bagtags before going down Barlig.
9. Barlig is where our Aid Station 4 will be located. Runners are expected to check-in and out before 15 Hours after the start of the race of 6PM. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to continue with the race.
10. Go back to Pula Village to complete the loop part of the course. Aid Station 5 is located at Pula. Just be careful since it will be dark during this section.
11. Take the trails you passed at the early part of the race when going back Awan-igid, where your drop-bags are located and our Aid Station 6. Runners are expected to check-in and out on or before 20 Hours or 11PM. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to continue with the race.
12. Get ready to climb Mt. Polis via Sitio Balat. Aid Station 7.
13. After this is a 9-KM descend to the town of Bokiawan at Hungduan, our Aid Station 8. Runners are expected to check-in and out at this area on or before 27 hours or 6AM of April 30. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to continue with the race.
14. Another 11-KM ascends to the last Aid Station at Amganad. you will pass the Magulon Hot Spring at Sitio Balawis before heading Amganad.
15. Finish Line at Banawe Hotel on or before 32 Hours or 11AM of April 30.

  • 50K:

1. This is a 50K out and back and point to point trail race that will start at Awan-igid and ends at Banawe Hotel. Start time is 0400H or 4AM of April 29, 2017.
2. Runners will first enter the mossy forest trails going Pula Village where the first Aid Station will be located. Take U-Turn going back Awan-igid.
3. Take the trails you passed at the early part of the race when going back Awan-igid for your Aid Station 2.
4. Get ready to climb Mt. Polis via Sitio Balat. Aid Station 3.
5. After this is a 9-KM descend to the town of Bokiawan at Hungduan, our Aid Station 4. Runners are expected to check-in and out at this area on or before 10 hours or 2PM. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to continue with the race.
6. Another 11-KM ascends to the last Aid Station at Amganad. you will pass the Magulon Hot Spring at Sitio Balawis before heading Amganad.
7. Finish Line at Banawe Hotel on or before 15 Hours or 7PM of April 29.

10K:

1. This is a 10K out and back trail race that will start and end at Banawe Hotel. Start time is 0600H or 6AM of April 30, 2017.
2. Runners will run down the cultural villages of Tam-an and Poitan before heading to Amganad where our Aid Station will be located. Take U-turn.
3. Go back to Tam-an bypassing Poitan Village and take the trails going up Banawe Hotel.
4. Finish Line at Banawe Hotel on or before 3 Hours or 9AM of April 30, 2017.

RACE GUIDELINES/ RULES AND REGULATIONS

Participants for ALTRA100 must be a finisher of at least 42K road or trail run race prior to race day.

Participants for the 50K category must be a finisher of at least 21K road or trail run race prior to race day.

1. Runners must be self-contained/ equipped with the mandatory gears. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to run. Mandatory gears will be checked upon claiming of race kits on April 28, 2017. A random checking at the Aid Stations will be conducted also for safety purposes. Incomplete mandatory gears mean outright disqualification from the race. A 30-minute grace period will be given to a runner to complete his/ her gears before allowing to continue with the race.
2. There will be NO CUPS/ BOWL/ SPOON available at the AID STATIONS. Please bring your own as part of your mandatory gears.
3. No pacers are allowed.
4. Littering is strictly prohibited. There will be garbage/ trash bags located at the aid station. Violation of this rule will mean outright disqualification from the race.
5. Trails will be clearly marked and marshals will be posted specially on the critical points along the course. All runners should run only on the marked trails. NO SHORTCUTS. Violation means outright disqualification from the race.
6. Outright disqualification and A lifetime ban for the runner/s who will caught misplacing or removing the trail signs.
7. Race bibs must be worn in front of each runner.
8. Trekking poles are part of mandatory gear.
9. Baggage counter is available at the starting line.
10. Drop bag station for ALTRA100K runners will be located at the Starting Line..
11. There will be parking area within the area of Banawe Hotel.
12. In case a runner decided not to continue with the race, he/ she must call the RD (09228476724/ 09062192973) or inform/ proceed to the nearest aid station or marshal. DNF Runners will shoulder their transportation going back to Banawe Hotel.
13. The Race Director reserves the right to modify the course, rules and regulations under some circumstances for the safety of all runners.
14. Written Protest should be made within 1 hour after the cut-off time in case there’s complaint against cheating or violation of rules. A protest fee of P500 will be collected to process the complaint.
15. The Race Director’s decision is final and non-appealable.
