Trail Academy, which is co-presented by Pinoy Trails, Active Pinas and Team Malaya, resumed with Brooks Trail 102 last July 15, 2018 at Camp John Hay with about a hundred of participants.  The event was a mixed of trail talk and an actual run powered by the Run Happy brand. #BrooksTrail102

Post Event Festivities

Brooks Trail 102 is a continuation of Trail Academy series co-presented by Pinoy Trails, Active Pinas and Team Malaya and is a follow up of the Hoka Trail 101 last May 13, 2018.  The event was supported by Brooks, John Hay Management Corporation, Amihan Sports Gear, Gu, Drymax, Runnr, Sanctband, Lightwater, Vitamin Boost, Emco Musli, Suntrust Properties Inc and Smart.  Brooks Trail 102 came with more advance topics in trails and also came in the rainy season where the participants got a chance to try out trail running in the rain.

The participant paid for a minimal registration fee of P250 but got a Brooks Shirt, Headwear, Gu Energy Gel, Lightwater / Vitamin Boost, Emco Musli and Breakfast plus a chance to win awesome prizes from Sanctband Resistance Band, Drymax Socks, Fitletic Race Belts, Itogonia Race Kits and Brooks Shoes.

Franc Ramon Welcoming Everyone for Brooks Trail 102

The talks were opened Franc Ramon of Pinoy Trails with a short welcome remarks on the trail being an all-weather playground.  He also emphasized keeping the circle of support between brands, runners and event organizers.

Brooks Brand Ambassador Don Santillan talks about gears

Brooks Brand Ambassador Don Santillan facilitated the discussion ranging from race planning, weather management and nutrition.  He highlighted the importance of each gear like Brooks Shoes, Amihan Vest and Belt and others. Don also discussed race strategy and weather management.

Female Champs Sandi Menchi and Aggy Smith sharing their race experiences.

Female Champions Sandi Menchi and Aggy Smith also shared some training and racing tips for the runners.  They also got to share some Women of Trail perspective for the runners.  Local runners John Amio and Carlo Funtanilla also shared their tips on training and nutrition.

Stephen of Team Malaya

Stephen Lopez Felices of Team Malaya shared some tips on trail etiquette as well as introduced the concept of plogging in the trails. Bern Alalag of Flycatchers Yoga Studio led the participants in breathing drills and proper stretching before the run.

Run Happy

The Groups was divided into 3 Groups, Run Fast, Run Happy and Walk Happy.  There were huddle points wherein the group had a more intimate discussion on tips, tricks and anything about trail running.  The groups was to keep everybody bundled at with a pace they are comfortable with.

The different pace group also had different routes with the Run Fast participants getting a peak of Itogonia’s race route.  The Run Happy group was able to try out the route heading to the Canopy area. The Walk Happy Group had a feel good tour of the lower part and heading back using the upper part of the Yellow trails.

Post Run

Happier times after the run.

After the run, everybody gathered in the event area for breakfast with pan de sal, Musli, Lightwater/Vitamin Boost and some Slow Brewed Coffee.  Sanctband Resistance bands were also given as special prizes for runners (youngest, oldest, etc) and were also given as a surprise award for those who was plogging during the run.  Drymax Socks, Brooks Bag, Fitletic Belts, Gu Energy Gels were also raffled of with the major prizes being two pairs of Brooks Running Shoes and Itogonia Race slots.
