Deadman’s 300 2016

Deadman’s 300 2016
The Rock Resort, Brgy. San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal
October 9, 2016 (Sunday)

Event Background:

Deadman’s 300 is an annual Birthday run and celebration of race director with infamous name “master BoyP.” It’s a celebration for the love of Trail running on the surface of master BoyP’s training playground. The fun started way back October 11, 2014 with just 21k category, which had only his closed circle of friends as participants. From twenty (20) runners in 2014, number of participants increased to one hundred twenty-two (122) in 2015. This is primarily because of  the new & leveled-up category of 30k and 50k. With the very affordable registration fees, it provide adequate school supplies for kids of Macaingalan Elementary School as it’s beneficiary.

Race Route:

The race will start at the The Rock Resort of San Isidro, Montalban, Rizal. From there, runners take up 3km of paved- roads going to Sitio Toyang. This will be an uphill climb passing the PNP-SAF camp, runners are advised to watch out for dogs and minimize noise as there are living communities along the road. Trail head starts from Sitio Toyang. It’s goes uphill from there with around 10k worth of climbs to Macaingalan Elementary School. The first Aid station is located in Macaingalan. Some parts of the trail are ankle-deep mud (if raining). It would be great to stay on the road side to lessen impact.

Sitio Lubog

Another 3km up will bring you to Sitio Lubog. All 30k and 50k runners will trek up around 1.5km going to the summit of Simbahang Bato also known as Mt. Lubog. This will be a single track route, with a mix of rock-scrambling. You’ll have to used some spider-man moves to get past this stretch. We encourage and advise to hike only this part due to sharp and slippery rock surface. It would be helpful to give way to all passing runners (ascending and descending), mountaineers (this is a mountaineers-haven) and local peoples. Runners will take same trail going back to Sitio Lubog.

After reaching Sitio Lubog (where AS2 located), all 30k runners should proceed to Deadman’s Trail while all 50k must go to Matulid falls. After Deadman’s Trail, runners will reach the (AS3) Lukutan area and participants must turn left at Intersection for 30k. It will proceed to “Pinagtabasan” going down to Quarry area and passing local community of sitio Sagingan to Finish line.

To the Falls

An approximate distance to the falls is 7km from Sitio Lubog. This would be the most tricky part of the route as there are some forks here that would lead you to Aurora Province and Tanay. Be cautious and vigilant enough to look for trail markers. Backtrack if in doubt. Along the way, you will bump some lumberjacks (people carrying heavy lumbers for their living). It will not cost you much time to stop and give way. Trail after the fork is mostly straightforward, with some clearing because of illegal logging and “kaingin”.

Your first river crossing will tell you that you’re still 2km away from the falls. Rivers here are knee-deep with strong currents (depending on class of Weather). During trek, it usually takes an hour to get to the falls. Runners will take the same river going back after taking the u-turn at main falls itself. Coming back to your first river crossing, you will take a different route. Use the lumber-jack trail (where water flow) going back to Sitio Lubog. You will be treated to several river-crossing, mini waterfalls and shaded tall green trees. It is 3k trek up the river and you will find yourself on the track you used going to the falls. Continue going up and backtrack going to Sitio Lubog.

Deadman’s Trail

Same as 30k runners, 50k runners will pass the Deadman’s Trail and Lukutan but should make a right turn to Intersection area. It will leads way to Don’t Look Back Trail (DLB). Upon reaching DLB summit, make a u-turn again back to Lukutan area and proceed to “Pinagtabasan” going down to Quarry area and passing local community of sitio Sagingan to Finish line.
